I've always been fascinated by living in small spaces and this adult loft bed is practical, whimsical and beautiful.
I've been tasked with making our microapartment project practical and beautiful and I love to see how others have made it work. Truth: more space doesn't equate to more happiness.

We've been debating a lot about the best shower design for small spaces here in the office.
Introducing... the shower shelf! This is a waist-height shelf, about 50mm deep, designed to act as the place for all of the shower bits and bobs that you need.
This replaces shower caddies (shelves hanging from the shower head), shower niches (a recessed wall in the shelf) and hopefully, the floor as a storage space.
Airflow is good (less chance of mould), a slight incline means water drains to the floor (no slime!) and it's not as fiddly to build (costs less). What do you think?

This is what our established garden looks like AFTER it's had a good trim. Can you imagine what it looked like before?!
It's actually a good example of a self-sufficient garden. Nobody has looked after it for months, and so the garden has adapted to it's micro climate and carried on regardless. It's a lovely thing about a sub-tropical climate.

This great article about repair cafes was on this month's RACV magazine. It's a volunteer based program where people bring in their broken items to be fixed, and sit with the repairer to learn how it's done.
This is brilliant, and a great example of how space (a community hall in this instance) can enable programs like these to happen. The community in which we live plays a big role in our overall wellness.

Last night, our Co-Founder Alice Joy had the honour of presenting to the new group of budding social entrepreneurs at Macquarie University's Social Entrepreneur Incubator about Living Joy, and how we came to exist. The topic covered the why, the values and the mission. For us, our mission is to help people and the planet to thrive together. We do that by building a better way of life. Our central values are sustainability, wellness, and ethical wealth creation. We believe in impact investment for a better world. Alice finished up by quoting Margaret Mead: 'Never doubt that a small group of committed individuals can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.'

Repointing 100 year old bricks, and upcycling bricks taken from one wall into the space that we need them.
Taking this 1920s house into 2019 means a new layout, updates, and a sustainable retrofit. Our new wall here creates a new bathroom and a storage nook. We're really pleased with how it's coming along!
